Nuestrxs Antepasadxs Nos Hablan Directamente (Our Ancestors Speak Directly With Us), 2019
This image is a portal and a spell. Meant to reawaken our psychic awareness of the abounding ancestral and spiritual support that surrounds us. Honoring the sacred ancestors of the Wixárika: Kauyumari, Hikuri, and Maíz. They surround an image of myself. Dissolving the boundaries between myself and the enveloping spirit beings. Endlessly emanating energies of dissolution and interstitial reciprocality.
This piece is a part of Add Space, a project created by artist Richard Zimmerman to bring art works to public spaces traditionally used for advertising in Tulsa, OK. The first iteration of this project, open from November 4 to December 1, will bring works by Johnna Arnold, Edgar Fabián Frías, and Nathan Young to billboards in and around downtown Tulsa, OK. Add Space was made possible by the Tulsa Artist Fellowship.
