Embracing The Hermit Year: My Journey into Digital Minimalism and Intentional Creation in 2025

The Hermit from The Collective Tarot

2025 is the year of The Hermit, and I feel called to turn inward and go into “the cave”. It’s a time for deep contemplation and profound transformation. I’m preparing to focus on some major projects that require my full attention, creating the space to reflect, go deep, and bring big magic to life.

I’m curious if you’re feeling this too.

I’m not entirely sure what this journey will look like, but here’s what I’m contemplating right now for 2025:

  • Prioritizing my own platforms and portals—my website, this blog, my newsletter, and my art—as spaces for connection and growth.

  • Using this blog and my newsletter as a way to share from the cave, offering glimpses into the long-term projects I’m working on, while embracing slow, intentional growth.

  • Re-thinking and redefining my relationship with social media, media as a whole, and the internet, creating more intentional boundaries and deeper connections.

  • Deepening my creative rituals by carving out time for introspection, experimentation, and honoring the process over the outcome.

  • Strengthening my connection to nature and ancestral wisdom, allowing these to inform and inspire my work in meaningful ways.

In today’s social and political climate, it’s more important than ever to prioritize platforms that offer autonomy, agency, and privacy—especially in an age of surveillance, corporate extraction, and algorithmic manipulation.

After more than a decade on the platform, I recently deleted my Twitter (now X) account. It’s a decision that has given me much peace and ease.

I’m also making a similar move with META and will share more about it here.

In the meantime, I’ve been inspired by the rapid growth of the decentralized social media platform BlueSky and invite you to follow me there. My username is my website: edgarfabianfrias.org.

I have also been inspired by dozens of people who have shared about their journeys of leaving social media on YouTube and who are using the platform as a space to share and connect more meaningfully with their communities. I really appreciate watching this video and this one.

Overall, I’m rethinking my relationship with social media and how it aligns with my goals. It’s hard to embrace the Hermit’s call for deep, intentional work when these platforms constantly fragment my attention. Designed with psychological manipulation and backed by millions in research, social media keeps us scrolling mindlessly, overstimulating our nervous systems and pulling us away from meaningful focus.

Regardless of which platforms I choose to stay on, I’m committing to setting strong boundaries and limiting my time to create space for what truly matters. While I feel excited and galvanized by this shift, I won’t deny that I’m also nervous, questioning if it’s the right move.

Next year will be a time of tremendous growth and change, with many important and exciting projects and collaborations already in motion. Even as fear whispers its doubts, I am reminded that the Hermit tarot card invites us to pause, reflect, and imagine radical change—not just as possible, but as essential for true growth.

I am curious about what this year’s tarot card of the year means to you. Please leave a comment below and share!
