Creative Projects

Latino Art NOW was formed in 2009 by a diverse collection of artists in Portland, Oregon to fill an organizational void in the region's artistic community. LAN aims to connect and empower emerging and established artists within Multnomah County's Latino Community, while providing a non-commercial option for artistic expression. LAN also aims to provide a social platform for Latino artists to collaborate among radical and traditional contexts for individual and collective pursuits. The artists in this collective have come together from a multitude of artistic practice and traditions from piñata and altar building to murals, found objects, digital media, movement and spoken word. The collective engaged in countless hours of conversations over the past year to explore the meaning and cultural context of creating art which encompasses the varied experiences of being Latino in Portland. This group show is a cumulative reflection of where LAN has currently found conceptual purchase and where these artists may being looking ahead to find greater meaning for themselves and their community.
